Maths activities:

Play in pairs. Start with 20 counters/objects — count these out together to start. In turns, take away 1, 2 or 3 counters. The loser is the person who takes the last counter. Encourage counting back.

Use counters/cubes/objects to make a row of 10 (try to keep them the same colour)

With the counters, can you make 11? Encourage your son to say: “11 is 10 and 1 more”

Can you make 12? “12 is 10 and 2 more”

Keep going until you reach 19.

We had a brilliant day exploring the woods at Cuffley Camp.

We travelled on the coach, climbed to the top of tall trees, jumped from log to log, enjoyed our yummy lunches, swung through the trees (just like Tarzan!), camouflaged our faces with a fun game of hide and seek and then took time to reflect on our day and take in the beautiful environment around us.

We have also been looking at subtraction:

Please can you write your own subtraction number sentences and count back to find the answers?

For example:

6-4= count 4 less than 6 to find the answer.

You can also use objects to support the understanding.

We followed instructions to make aeroplanes and then tested them outside.

We enjoyed pond dipping during Welly Time and we were excited to find a newt! As they are a protected species, we were very careful and just observed the newt quietly.

For the Math challenge this week, can you write your own addition number sentences and count on to find the answers?

For example:

5+3= count on 3 more from 5.

Our new topic is Transport and this week we wrote a list of different transport. The boys thought of some good ideas, including ‘submarine’ and ‘double-decker bus’.

We enjoyed exploring the Green Meadow.
