Boo!

We used the tweezers to catch the bugs in the web. The tweezers are a good tool for developing our fine motor skills.

We worked on our throwing, catching and ball skills this week during Welly time.

Thank you to Klarence who kindly found us a pumpkin from the pumpkin farm. We had fun scooping out the inside and decorating the pumpkin!

Spooky Maths:

Our Halloween day was lots of fun! Thank you very much to the PTA who arranged a scavenger hunt for the boys, they had a fantastic time. In the afternoon we had lots of fun with RS Class doing arts and crafts and dancing!

Well done to all the boys (and parents!) for completing your first half term at Lochinver House. Have a fantastic half term!

Leaf Men and Pumpkins

We practised our letter formation in the shaving foam this week and played Phonic games on the iPads. We played ‘buried treasure’, sorting real words from fake ones. A good game to play at home….

We had lots of fun during Welly time collecting many different leaves. It was a good opportunity to discuss size, colour and texture. We made our own leaf men inspired by the story ‘Leaf man’.

We have been talking about autumn and harvest and had fun making pumpkin faces and pumpkin soup!

We read the story ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ and made our own story board. Mr Walker popped in and added his own drawing!

Popcorn tasting was fun during our Understanding of the World lesson where we learnt about our sense of taste.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear

We had fun with numbers in Maths this week, we looked for different number patterns, e.g. on the dice and Numicon. We played an addition and ‘1 more’ game with the dice. We used tweezers to place the correct amount of pompoms into the cake holders.

This week we read ‘Polar Bear, Polar Bear, what do you hear?’. We compared last week’s story and listened for our own sounds around the school and classroom. The boys were very interested in polar bears so we found out some facts!

We encourage the boys to use our Super Learner powers, these are displayed in our classroom. This half term our focus is ‘resilience’, Terry Tortoise is very good at bouncing back and understands that sometimes he might not get it right but always tries again. Each half term we chose a Super Learner who has been demonstrating the characteristics.

During our Understanding of the World lessons, we have been talking about our senses. This week we learnt about our sense of hearing and went on a sound hunt and identified different animal noises.

Maths Homework

The boys have been doing very well learning how to write their numbers. They have learnt that all numbers start at the top and they are trying hard to make them sit on the line. For homework, please can you practise writing numbers 0-4. Please let us know how you get on by commenting on this blog post. To do this, please click on the ‘heart’ to the left of this post. You can also bring in independent work from home, which we can display on our ‘independence wall’. Have fun!

Exploring Books

We worked on the formation of our letters using the rice this week. We played Letter Bingo and enjoyed telling stories in the reading area.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?

The boys enjoyed listening and joining in with the repeated phrases. They continued the story by writing down what they could see in the classroom. We created our own large brown bear.

The boys have been enjoying their Drama lessons, using their imaginations pretending to be scary dragons.
