Can you make an Elmer?

Good Afternoon RG!

We have found some fun Elmer Art that you may like to do. Please scroll down to see a finished family of Elmer Elephants!

To make an amazing elephant you will need a large plastic washed out milk bottle. You will need to ask mummy or daddy to cut the bottle in half and cut four legs so your elephant can stand up. Please remember to leave handle on for the trunk!

Next you will need either PVA glue or Pritt Stick to cover your bottle so you can stick as many different colours on as possible! Finally when dried you can draw on your eyes.

Please see the link below which is a one of Elmer’s wonderful stories:

Been There Done It

Mrs Price has been inspired by the natural environment and would love you to make a picture made entirely out of natural materials. I love the work of Andy Goldsworthy and Barbara Hepworth, who were also inspired by nature. Perhaps you could make a sculpture made from the natural materials in your garden and send us a photograph, which Mrs Price could put on the Been There Done It blog.

Hello Boys
It has been lovely to hear from some of you and see all the work you have been doing! It has been nice to see some sunshine this week and we hope you have been out in your gardens enjoying it. We wondered if you have noticed the flowers starting to bloom? Maybe you could draw or paint one?

Spending money

Could you please set up a shop at home (if you have a toy till, you could use this) and buy some items such as sweets that cost less than £1 or 50p. Use a range of coins and practise counting in ones, twos and tens. Have fun!

Signs of Spring

We started learning about coins this week during Maths. We identified different coins and made different amounts using a variety of coins.

We sequenced the story of Jack and the Beanstalk during Literacy.

We talked about Spring this week and planted some sunflower seeds.

Please do keep in touch over the upcoming weeks, we would like to hear how you are all getting on. We will be continuing to post on the blog so please check back soon.

What’s the time?

For this weeks Maths challenge,  please draw some clocks with numbers 1-12. Please then add a minute hand and a hour hand to display different o’clock times. We have been drawing the hands in class and the boys have learnt that the hour hand is shorter than the minute hand and that both hands need to start from the middle and be drawn in a straight line. As an extension, please draw some half past times. Please write the times you made by commenting on this post. Have fun!

We love Science!

Tuesday was all about Science.. we started off with an exciting assembly about chemical reactions and how fireworks are made. The assembly involved some loud bangs and colourful patterns!

During our Biology workshop we learnt that if an animal has a back bone it is a vertebrate. Whereas, those without a back bone are called invertebrates such as a worms.

We learnt lots of facts about worms, including why they are good for our gardens.

We tried to eat a biscuit without our teeth like worms.

We observed the worms and got the chance to hold them.

We are keeping the worms and will feed them our left over fruit.

Making bubbles:

Hunting for digraphs outside in the garden:

We started looking at time this week, focussing on o’clock and half past. We made our own watches.

During Understanding of the World, we explored different materials to find out whether they float or sink.
