Einstein

“Einstein” visited Lochinver today. He arrived in the RA classroom just while we were having our snack and gave us quite a shock! He spoke to the boys about gravity and showed them how he uses his compass to find north.

Tasting

This week we have been thinking about the sense of taste. The boys tasted sweet popcorn, salty popcorn, bitter dark chocolate and sour lemon juice. We also looked at a diagram of the tongue to discover whereabouts we taste these tastes.

As you can see from the photographs some of the boys liked the tastes and some didn’t!

If you taste anything you like or don’t like at home you could comment in the space below!

ICT

The boys in RA worked hard developing their keyboard skills today. Here are some photos of Blue Group.

Miss Thomas taught us how to use letters and numbers on the keyboard. Some of us used symbols and we thought it looked like a message from an alien!

If you have a computer with a keyboard at home maybe you could ask Mummy or Daddy to help you to practise.

Harvest

Reception have worked really hard over the last few weeks preparing for the Pre Prep Harvest Assembly.

This morning we performed to the rest of the school and we had lots of fun! We look very professional in our costumes

Play Dough

The boys in Reception love to play with play dough!

Not only is this a creative activity, it is also great for strengthening hands and fingers. This, in turn, helps with early handwriting!

If you would like to have a go at making play dough for school you can sign up in the cloakroom. It is quick, fun and really easy! The boys will love joining in and helping you, it will also be a great opportunity to measure different quantities together. (So, there is a maths link too!) Any texture is great fun so please don’t worry if it’s a bit gloopy!

Shop bought dough is great but it is not as fun as making your own! You can find the recipe below

Microwave Play Dough

Ingredients

250ml water

150g flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 tablespoon of cooking oil

125g salt

Food colouring

  1. Place all the ingredients in a bowl (apart from the food colouring) and stir.
  2. When it is all mixed, place in the microwave for about 1 minute.
  3. Take it out of the microwave and stir. Let it cook for another 30 seconds.
  4. Keep stirring and microwaving for 20 seconds until it be one sticky.
  5. Remove from the bowl, add food colouring and start kneading. (You may want to wear want rubber gloves to avoid dis colouring your hands.

Have fun!

A good start!

The boys in RA have made a great start to life at Lochinver. This week they have been getting used to coming into school and getting started straight away! They have been great at finding their “Busy Finger” groups and have worked together to complete the different activities.
