Subtraction and Addition Number sentences to try this week…

Roll a die and count the number of spots on the die. Next, roll the die again. You can choose to either add or take away the numbers. Try alternating between each concept to help with understanding and recognition of different operational signs. To extend this further, place any number above 10 in your head. You need to remember to ‘lock’ this in your head. Next, roll the die and whatever number is shown on the die, please place on your fingers. Lastly, count on or back from the number that you put in your head on each finger e.g. 16-3, put 16 in your head and get 3 fingers to count back on.

    6+4=10
    5-4=1
    16+1=17
    16-1=15
    16+2=18
    16-2=14
