Our Maths focus this week has been 2D shapes. The boys enjoyed their shape walk around the school and were amazed by how many they could see, consequently counting the tallies proved to be tricky!
With Christmas fast approaching our lovely parent helper has been busy helping the boys decorate delicious Christmas biscuits.
In phonics we have looked at ‘y’, ‘x’ and our first digraph ‘sh’.
With Santa’s Workshop now open the boys have been very busy helping the Elves with their presents. All the boys had a great time cutting, sticking and wrapping.
Letters to Santa have been written and are ready to be sent to the North Pole.
In Understanding the World the boys have looked at animals, their babies and their homes. We all learnt new animal baby names including Miss Fletcher and I, as we were informed that baby hedgehogs are called hoglets and baby squirrels are kits!

With Christmas fast approaching, Santa’s Workshop has opened. With just over four weeks to go until the big day the boys in RA are busily working away helping Santa’s Elves.
From Thursday our new theme for Star Boy will be a favourite book or story. Boys can bring in their book and explain why it is their favourite.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at our Christmas Fair today. I am assured that there will be a special visitor in residence dressed in red.
We have had another busy week. We have now reinforced all numbers to 20 and next week we will be looking at 2D shapes. We will continue to consolidate number order and number formation.
Phonics covered this week have been z,w and v. We are now running low on single phonic sounds and will be starting digraphs very soon.
Christmas has arrived and the boys are extremely industrious with Christmas preparations.
The boys have enjoyed our current topic of Houses and Homes and are making use of the wonderful wooden blocks we now have.
The weather was kind to us at the beginning of the week and the boys enjoyed making the most of the outdoor activities.

After our vibrant start to the week the boys have continued working hard. The boys have now painted their divas which are looking amazing.
In Maths this week the boys have been focusing on numbers 18 and 19. We have been working on correct number formation, counting correctly to those numbers, as well as 1 to 1 correspondence.
In Literacy we have focused on the phonic sounds f, b, and j. All the boys have worked really hard trying to form these tricky letters using our cursive script.
The PTA kindly purchased some wonderful wooden bricks for our outside area and the boys had as much fun with the bricks as they did with the boxes the bricks came in!
Inspired by our Topic of Houses and Buildings, the boys have used our large lego bricks to make magnificent structures.

As is customary at Lochinver the boys attended the Remembrance Day assembly with the rest of the school. All boys observed the minute silence. We were very proud of the boys as they sat attentively and silently throughout the whole assembly.

This week the boys have been learning about Diwali. Mrs Mehta and Mrs Shah kindly came to talk to the boys about this festival. They both explained why and how it is celebrated. What a feast of light and colour!

This week we have started our new Topic of Houses and Buildings. Thank you so much for all your photographs, we are very much looking forward to sharing our display with you very soon.
The boys have been working hard writing about who lives in their house.
In Maths this week we have focused on numbers 16 and 17. Below you can see the boys independently writing numbers during ‘explore and learn time’.
The boys were truly inspired by the stories of fireworks and gunpowder and they could not wait to create their own firework scenes during ‘explore and learn’ time.
We focused on ‘o’, ‘u’ and ‘l’ this week and many of the boys are trying hard to use their increasing phonic knowledge to start writing words independently.
The boys understand why we wear poppies and why we celebrate Remembrance Sunday. We are very much looking forward to joining the rest of the school on Tuesday for Remembrance Assembly.

With Bonfire Night looming the boys have been busy creating their firework pictures.
All the boys had great fun choosing and mixing the colours, as well as adding the glitter for the final sparkle!
