This week is certainly shaping up!

Our Maths focus this week has been 2D shapes. The boys enjoyed their shape walk around the school and were amazed by how many they could see, consequently counting the tallies proved to be tricky!

In phonics we have looked at ‘y’, ‘x’ and our first digraph ‘sh’.

With Santa’s Workshop now open the boys have been very busy helping the Elves with their presents. All the boys had a great time cutting, sticking and wrapping.

Letters to Santa have been written and are ready to be sent to the North Pole.

In Understanding the World the boys have looked at animals, their babies and their homes. We all learnt new animal baby names including Miss Fletcher and I, as we were informed that baby hedgehogs are called hoglets and baby squirrels are kits!

Have a lovely weekend!

Fun at the Fair!

Looking forward to seeing many of you at our Christmas Fair today. I am assured that there will be a special visitor in residence dressed in red.

We have had another busy week. We have now reinforced all numbers to 20 and next week we will be looking at 2D shapes. We will continue to consolidate number order and number formation.

Phonics covered this week have been z,w and v. We are now running low on single phonic sounds and will be starting digraphs very soon.

Christmas has arrived and the boys are extremely industrious with Christmas preparations.

Having a Magna Time!

Yesterday the boys were amazed and inspired by our visiting Science company, Magna.062 063 064 065 066 067 068 069 070All the boys listened and watched mesmerized. Even the loud bangs did not detract them.

The boys were informed that all these investigations can take place in the kitchen at home. We look forward to hearing about the many experiments your sons will guide you through.

In Maths this week the boys have been focusing on numbers 18 and 19. We have been working on correct number formation, counting correctly to those numbers, as well as 1 to 1 correspondence.

In Literacy we have focused on the phonic sounds f, b, and j. All the boys have worked really hard trying to form these tricky letters using our cursive script.

The PTA kindly purchased some wonderful wooden bricks for our outside area and the boys had as much fun with the bricks as they did with the boxes the bricks came in!

Inspired by our Topic of Houses and Buildings, the boys have used our large lego bricks to make magnificent structures.

As is customary at Lochinver the boys attended the Remembrance Day assembly with the rest of the school. All boys observed the minute silence. We were very proud of the boys as they sat attentively and silently throughout the whole assembly.

Happy Diwali!

Wishing you and your family a happy Diwali!

This week the boys have been learning about Diwali. Mrs Mehta and Mrs Shah kindly came to talk to the boys about this festival. They both explained why and how it is celebrated. What a feast of light and colour!

Thank you to Mrs Mehta and Mrs Shah.

Through the keyhole

This week we have started our new Topic of Houses and Buildings. Thank you so much for all your photographs, we are very much looking forward to sharing our display with you very soon.

The boys have been working hard writing about who lives in their house.

In Maths this week we have focused on numbers 16 and 17. Below you can see the boys independently writing numbers during ‘explore and learn time’.

The boys were truly inspired by the stories of fireworks and gunpowder and they could not wait to create their own firework scenes during ‘explore and learn’ time.

066

We focused on ‘o’, ‘u’ and ‘l’ this week and many of the boys are trying hard to use their increasing phonic knowledge to start writing words independently.

The boys understand why we wear poppies and why we celebrate Remembrance Sunday. We are very much looking forward to joining the rest of the school on Tuesday for Remembrance Assembly.

Here are some more photographs to show you what else we have been doing.

Welcome back!

We hope you had an enjoyable half term and have benefited from a few lie-ins!

With Bonfire Night looming the boys have been busy creating their firework pictures.

All the boys had great fun choosing and mixing the colours, as well as adding the glitter for the final sparkle!

Be safe and enjoy all firework displays!
